Spring Christening!

A Greek Orthodox Baptism is usually a large affair and celebration, partly because it’s the child’s baptism, confirmation and Holy Communion all done in the same service….and partly because Greeks like to party!  When it was time for my youngest daughter, Christina to be baptized, I knew it was my last child so I wanted to go all out and create an elegant and fun shabby chic pink party.

The service was a traditional orthodox service held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in New Rochelle. Christina was an angel when the priest dunked her in the water, cut a snip of her hair and when she received her first holy communion. She wore a christening gown passed down from my family also worn by one of my other daughters. Pink witness pins were given to the men and pink rhinestone cross bracelets for the women.

The cocktail hour was held in the beautiful atrium at the Hyatt Hotel in Greenwich. Perfect background for family photos. Before guests entered the white tent for dinner and dancing they were greeted with pink champagne and an escort card table filled with a bed of pink carnations, pink glitter escort cards and beautifully framed photos of my baby Christina. The tent was draped with white fabric and pink up lighting.  Dining tables were dressed with pink pintuck linens, white chair covers and pink shimmer bracket style menu cards.  The table numbers were each adorably framed pictures of Christina from each month. The centerpieces were alternating tall branches tied with pink tissue pompoms and short apothecary jars filled with pink peonies and other pink flowers.

The kids enjoyed entertainment from Sunny the Clown, face painting, balloons animals and glitter tattoos. During dinner, the kids and clown took over the dance floor enjoying parachute games.

A trio of Live Greek Music led the Greek Dancing and enhanced our celebration.  Guests departed the event with an individually wrapped glass apothecary jar with a picture of Christina. It was a memorable celebration for me, my family and all our guests.
